Welcome to the BYU Management Society Las Vegas Chapter Homepage

The BYU Management Society: Las Vegas Chapter is dedicated to improving the financial and civic opportunities of its members and friends. This is primarily done through our series of monthly luncheons featuring guest speakers chosen for their dynamic achievements, public service, or business-academics. The Society also sponsors community service programs and provides a valuable mentoring and employment resource to its members and friends.

Our Goal

The Society is comprised of business people from diverse educational, social, and religious backgrounds dedicated to a common goal of lifting one another and our community through high standards of ethical business conduct as well as the sharing of business experiences, skills, ideas and service.

MONTHLY LUNCHEON

Friday, January 13, 2012
Luncheon 12:00 pm -1:00 pm
(Registration and mix-and-mingle begin at 11:30 a.m.)

Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman: Her vision for Las Vegas and what involved citizens can do to help.

Winning 60 percent of the vote, Carolyn G. Goodman became the mayor of the city of Las Vegas on July 6, 2011. Her husband of 49 years and then current mayor, Oscar B. Goodman, administered the oath of office. It is the only known instance of a spouse succeeding her husband as mayor in the United States. Oscar Goodman was term limited after 12 years of service.

Carolyn is well known in the Las Vegas community for founding The Meadows School in 1984, Nevada's first nonprofit, nonsectarian, independent, coeducational, college preparatory school for pre-kindergarten through 12th grades. Recognized nationally by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and the National Association of Independent Schools in 2006 with the Seymour Preston Trustee Award for Leadership, Carolyn has devoted much of her life to volunteerism in Las Vegas and more specifically to education. She has proven her deep commitment to the community and continues to be devoted to the highest quality of life for all southern Nevadans by her efforts and dedication.

Her children have gone on to be extremely successful, each of whom went on to graduate schools out-of-state and each of whom has now returned to live in Las Vegas to raise their own families (six grandchildren to date) and make their own profound contributions in the medical, legal, and business fields.
